She was found emaciated by a woodcutter in the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary near Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, Sub-inspector Suresh Yadav spotted the girl with the woodcutters. It was discovered that she was neither able to talk nor walk like a human.
Dubbed ‘Mowgli girl’ by the media, the child was found around two months ago. She walked on all fours and made screeching noises to communicate.
The police immediately took her to a hospital where she is still being taken care of. The hospital staff is helping her learn how to walk on two legs and eat food like a human.
D.K. Singh, the chief medical superintendent of the government-run hospital, told the media, “She is still not able to speak, but understands whatever you tell her and even smiles.”
The girl was found in the company of monkeys. When the woodcutters, and later the Sub-inspector, tried to rescue her, the monkeys gave chased them. The police officer was somehow able to rescue the girl.
The girl had injury marks on her body and was initially very frightened of people.
Reports say that the girl was found wearing clothes indicating that she was abandoned by her family. The police is still trying to find out about her origins.
Mowgli was a fictional character in Noble laureate Rudyard Kipling’s iconic collection of stories ‘The Jungle Book’. Considered one of the most famous characters ever written in history of literature, Mowgli was a boy-cub raised by wolves in a jungle called Seonee (or Seoni).
